New research laboratories that cost Pounds 250,000 to build and kit out have been opened at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
The laboratories will carry out research in industrial process technology, a field that deals with the monitoring and imaging of complex physical and chemical processes in, for instance, industrial machinery, running engines and pipelines. UMIST already commands Pounds 1.5 million in research grants in this field.
