University of Hertfordshire and Dunstable College. FEFC regional committee approved, but rejected by FEFC national committee.

University of Derby and Mackworth College. Mackworth backed out after gaining FEFC approval.

University of Derby and High Peak College. Approved by the FEFC, with secretary of state.

Bath University and University of the West of England. Rejected by Bath senate.

Nottingham Trent University and Brackenhurst College. Consultation under way.

Leicester South Fields College and Charles Keene College. Feasibility study positive. With FEFC regional committee.

Airedale and Wharfdale College and Park Lane College. Approved by the FEFC, with the secretary of state.

Clarendon College and Basford Hall College. Approved by the FEFC and secretary of state. Now subject to making of statutory orders.

North Bolton Sixth Form College and South College, Bolton.Approved by the FEFC and secretary of state. Now subject to statutory orders.

East Birmingham College and Handsworth College. Being considered by regional committees.

East Berkshire College and Ealing Tertiary College. Approved by FEFC and secretary of state. Subject to statutory orders.

Newcastle College and Gateshead College. Joint feasibility study encouraging, but talks collapsed.

University of Wales, Lampeter, and Trinity College, Carmarthen. Consultation under way.

Glasgow College of Building and Printing and Glasgow College of Food Technology. Vetoed by Scottish education minister Brian Wilson.

Northern College and Aberdeen University/Dundee University. Negotiations approved by the governing bodies.

Glasgow University and St Andrew's College. With Scottish secretary Donald Dewar for decision.

Edinburgh University and Moray House Institute of Education. Approved by Scottish secretary.
