The following have been appointed pro vice-chancellors from October 1: Michael Fulford, professor in the department of archaeology, dean of the faculty of letters and social sciences (1994-97) with responsibility for teaching; Peter Gregory, professor and deputy chairman of Global Change and Terrestrial Ecosystems, responsible for research. Gordon Davies, head of facilities management for The Boots Company, has been appointed director of estates and buildings.
University of Teesside
Brian Hobbs, chair in construction since 1993, has been appointed director of research and development.
Westminster College, Oxford David Langford, former director of academic affairs at the University College of Ripon and York St John, has been appointed head of the school of education.
R. Harper, research scientist at Xerox Research Centre Europe, has been appointed director of the digital world research centre at the university.
British Association for Business Studies Industrial Placements
Simon Hamm, careers, guidance and placements tutor at the European Business School London (Regent's College) has been appointed chairman, replacing Peter Batho of Manchester Metropolitan University.
Association of Colleges
Jim Scrimshaw, chair of Barking College, has been appointed chair of the association, Nick Brown, principal of Oldham Sixth Form College was appointed vice-chair.
