Busy libraries receive Pounds 20 million in support

July 3, 1998

The funding councils have launched a Pounds 20 million programme to support heavily used university libraries.

The programme is based on proposals made in the 1995 Anderson report into library and information support for researchers. It will set up pilot projects in institutions to explore the benefits of collaborative management of collections. It will also support cataloguing, preserving and access to collections from humanities to the social sciences and the conversion of publications for electronic use. The programme will run for three years from August 1999.
