The following lecturers have been promoted to readerships: James Carrier, anthropology, economical changes in Britain, the United States and Melanesia; Timothy Clark, English studies, Shelley, literary hermeneutics and Maurice Blanchot; Pamela Clemit, English studies, romantic period fiction, including Shelley, Godwin and Inchbald; Jeremy Dibble, music, British music in the 19th and 20th centuries; Patrick Dorey, mathematical sciences, conformal and integral field theories; Robert Edwards, biological sciences, pesticide metabolism in plants and herbicide selectivity; John Gatehouse, biological sciences, genetic engineering of plants and plant gene structures; Li He, engineering, turbomachinery and computational fluid dynamics; Matthew Johnson, archaeology, archaeological theory and landscape history; Zhaohui Luo, computer science, computer-assisted reasoning, programme specification and type theory, logic and semantics.
