To get an idea of the calibre of the man now in charge of British science, we need look no farther than Peter Mandelson's record so far as head of the Millennium Dome project, which he is keeping in his grasp despite his new duties at the Department of Trade and Industry. In an interview with Building magazine he says: "...wherever I go, people say: 'I drove past it' or 'I flew over it'. People are overawed by it, and so they should be. It is going to be a construction, engineering and architectural triumph." Interesting that he did not mention any particular desire among people to visit the thing.
