CLAMS and mussels that block factory cooling pipes fed by river water could soon be dislodged from their comfortable environment. Southampton University scientists are heading a European project to find out why their larvae flourish in industrial plant. They are using special sensors to take precise physical and chemical measurements. Collaborators include researchers at Liverpool John Moores University and scientists in Belgium.
