The number of young people on modern apprenticeship programmes has risen by 30 per cent over the past 12 months, while the number of people on government-backed work-based training schemes overall has fallen by 8 per cent. The number of people starting a modern apprenticeship, however, fell by 1 per cent, and the number starting work-based schemes was down 13 per cent.
