Doubting Thomas

The defection of Tom Wilson, former Association of University Teachers assistant general secretary, to Natfhe threatened problems for the Bett committee, set up to discuss academic pay and conditions of service. As AUT rep on the committee he was arguing forcefully for a pay review body, something for which Natfhe is less than enthusiastic. Rather than put on a temporary AUT hat, he has forfeited his position, half-way through the series of meetings, in favour of David Triesman, his ex-boss.
