The new Scottish parliament must "innovate, not automate", Lesley Beddie, head of Napier University's computing department, warned this week.
Professor Beddie, a member of the Scottish Office expert panel on information technology, told a Napier conference on "Reporting Holyrood" that people must guard against simply automating current parliamentary processes. It was important to rethink how things could be done to encourage democratic participation.
