* University researchers who work with the country's computer industries received a boost last week when Peter Mandelson declared that the United Kingdom must lead the way in the world's digital economy. In his first major speech since becoming responsible for science at Cabinet level, Mr Mandelson said that he wanted the United Kingdom to become Europe's digital laboratory.
