* Researchers at a new research centre at Heriot-Watt University plan to harness the power of lasers to produce computers that work 1,000 times faster than conventional systems.
Work at the Centre for Integrated Optoelectronic Systems will involve collaboration between Heriot-Watt physicists, computer scientists and electrical engineers with colleagues at the universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh and St Andrews.
