University medical schools in eastern and southern Africa are in the process of revising their pharmacy degree programmes with assistance from the World Health Organisation. The new undergraduate curriculum leading to the award of bachelor of pharmacy will have an interdisciplinary approach, linking clinical and social sciences. The universities will also develop a new master's programme in public health pharmacy and stress the professional competence of pharmacists.
