Institutions consider London lobby group

October 16, 1998

London's university and college heads will be asked to address regionalisation by forming an umbrella body to promote higher education in the capital.

The heads of all 40 or so London higher education institutions will meet on December 1 to consider a plan for a representative body designed to ensure that they have a local and national voice. Graham Zellick, vice-chancellor of London University, and Roderick Floud, provost of London Guildhall University, are behind the proposal. Universities are partially represented already by other bodies such as the M25 academic libraries group and the Learning in London group, which is part of the wider London First marketing group.
