Only half of the active advanced-level general national vocational qualifications candidates successfully completed their work by the annual cut-off point, the published 1997-98 results show. By the end of July, 41,346 students (51.6 per cent of candidates) completed a full award, equivalent to two A levels. This compares with 36,997 last year (49 per cent of candidates).
