A former Edinburgh University professor has told an industrial tribunal that there was a sense in which Edinburgh's social anthropology department was run by an "inner cabal".
Judith Okely, now professor of social anthropology at Hull, made the statement to an industrial tribunal while giving evidence on behalf of Alan Campbell, a former social anthropology lecturer who is claiming constructive dismissal.
The head of department, Anthony Cohen, said he discussed all substantive policy with Professor Okely and that it was a "cheap accusation" that an inner circle ran the department.
