The first university-educated women to have a career and children were medics, according to study of graduates from Girton College, Cambridge.
"Even in the 1920s, medics were much more likely to keep going after children," said Pat Thane of the University of Sussex. She gathered information from about 700 women who graduated from Girton College between 1920 and 1990.
