Proposals for green alternatives to cement and ice skates are among the 18 winners of the new government Foresight Link awards.
The awards, which were launched at the end of last year, are the first of their kind. They are funded by government to the tune of Pounds 10 million, with equal funding coming from industry.
They aim to unite industry and science to work in areas identified by Foresight as key to the future prosperity and quality of life of the United Kingdom. Among the winning projects is a venture between Sheffield and Cranfield universities and Lucas Aerospace and Rolls-Royce to develop more environmentally friendly fuel-control systems for aircraft.
