The Wellcome Trust has taken the offensive in the public debate over animal experimentation by writing to the government to emphasise the need for continued vivisection. Michael Dexter (pictured), director of the Wellcome Trust, has written to George Howarth, parliamentary under secretary of state at the Home Office, saying a reduction in the use of animals for medical research would "slow or prevent the progress" of UK medical research.
