Workplace Technologies has been appointed to provide the essential communications infrastructure for Scotland's University of the Highlands and Islands, using technology from Cisco Systems. The company will instal a new broadband wide area network, upgraded local area networks and an internal telephone network linking UHI's 13 partner institutions, at an estimated cost in excess of Pounds 1.75 million. Cisco will also sponsor a senior research post in learning technology.
