Liberal Democrat peers are to call on the government to take a lead in ensuring minimum health and safety standards for student accommodation. Liberal Democrat peer Lord Tope (below) will open a debate in the House of Lords on February 9 calling on the government to consider giving statutory powers to local councils to inspect private rented student accommodation.
