Government plans to reduce business influence on college governing bodies and to include local government representation are not open to negotiation, education minister Baroness Blackstone told a conference of governors this week. The conference, organised by the Association of Colleges, which is leading opposition to the planned changes, was told the changes would be "painful", but "right".
