More than 400 Italian academics have signed a declaration against human cloning and sent it to the Pope. Bruno Dallapiccola, genetics professor at Tor Vergata University in Rome, said: "The signatories were not only Catholics but scientists who reject human cloning in that it attacks biological diversity. At the same time, we leave the way open to experimentation on animals that can help human life."
