Four per cent more students gained postgraduate qualifications between 1996-97 and 1997-98, the Higher Education Statistics Agency reported this month. Of 115,000 students, 18,900 did a postgraduate certificate of education, 82,300 took taught courses and 13,700 took research degrees. Some 28,200 came from overseas.
