Imperial College London has underlined its senior position among the United Kingdom's university elite by becoming the highest-earning institution last year. Noble's Higher Education Financial Yearbook, to be published this spring, puts Imperial's total income for 1998 at more than Pounds 309 million. This tops Oxford's Pounds 304 million and Cambridge's Pounds 293 million.
