The government this week pledged to keep an eye on both arms of the new Joint Infrastructure Fund, the Pounds 600 million Wellcome Trust/government pot to which universities can bid for new buildings and to replace run-down research equipment. In its response to the House of Commons science and technology committee's report on the comprehensive spending review, Lord Sainsbury said administrative arrangements for both the biological arm and the physical and social science side would be monitored.
