Agencies charged with supporting artists in the crucial few years after graduating are "failing" in the task, said Metier, the national training organisation for the arts. Duncan Sones, Metier's chief executive, said: "The systemI is just not gelling together." A study conducted with Tony Collier, formerly of the University of Central England, found that many graduates felt isolated and alone after leaving university and college.
