The British Computer Society has appointed David Hartley president. Dr Hartley, a chartered engineer and former chief executive of UKERNA, was a key adviser in the establishment of the Joint Network Team and JANET. His new deputy will be Alastair Macdonald, present director general of the industry group at the Department of Trade and Industry. They start work on October 21.
