Students at Newcastle University survive on as little as Pounds 20 per week, while those at London's Imperial College eke out a living from anything up to Pounds 300 per week, according to the Virgin Alternative Guide to British Universities 2000, which lists every institution in the country. Students can use the Guide to find the university of their dreams according to the credentials they consider essential. Bolton Institute scored highly on the Beer Assessment Exercise as a pint in one of its union bars is the cheapest in the country at only Pounds 1.
