More than 850 eager freshers have volunteered to take part in a study at the University of Edinburgh on glandular fever.
The study, to find out why the illness is so common among students and why some are more susceptible than others, includes a blood test and questionnaire.
Since glandular fever is also known as "the kissing disease", some answers could give away rather more information about the lives of freshers than anyone requires.
