Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo has abolished the 10 per cent discretion on student admissions given to vice-chancellors, who have attacked the move as the usurpation of their powers. Students and academic staff claim that many vice-chancellors have used their discretion to admit relatives who do not meet admission criteria.
