Liverpool University is to pull out of teacher training next year, claiming it is uneconomical to continue to provide high-quality courses. Liverpool has informed the Teacher Training Agency that it has recruited its last cohort of students, and will cease to provide both primary and secondary initial teacher training from September 2000. The university said that it had experienced the "academic, financial and logistical difficulties encountered by relatively small ITT providers".
