University College Chichester has awarded an honorary doctorate of science to Christine Keltel-Kreidt, a professor at the Freie Universitat Berlin and chair of the International Mathematics Association.
It has also awarded an honorary doctorate of literature to Gordon McGregor, former principal of Bishop Otter College, Chichester, and of the College of Ripon and York, St John.
Trevor Dadson, head of the department of Hispanic studies at the University of Birmingham, has been elected the first British Hispanist president of the Asociacion Internacional Siglo de Oro.
Stafford Lightman, professor of medicine at the University of Bristol, has been elected president of the International Society of Neuroendocrinology. He will hold the appointment between April 2000 and 2002.
Bernard Silverman, professor of statistics at Bristol, has been elected president of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.
Avril Waterman-Pearson, professor of veterinary anaesthesia and head of the department of clinical veterinary science at Bristol, has received the Meriel International Grand Prize for an outstanding research programme in the field of pain relief in animals.
