Twenty University of Malaya students have threatened the Associated Press with legal action if it does not retract a report about the motives for a demonstration last month. Students denied the protest was related to the alleged arsenic poisoning of former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim and was to embarrass deputy prime minister Ahmad Badawi. The matter reached a head when education minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak threatened action against the students.
