The Committee of Scottish Higher Education Principals has pledged to support any university fighting proposals to axe the distinctive MA title for undergraduate degrees.
A Coshep spokesman said: "We would stand by any institution which wished to maintain the MA degree. We think the fact that the terminology is untidy is not in itself enough reason to abolish the title."
