British academics have helped to update a 1995 media monitoring study, which found that women were primarily represented in the world's media in domestic roles or as victims of crime.
Volunteers from more than 80 countries took part in the project, organised by the World Association for Christian Communication.
Hamnett takes over as principal of Strathclyde n Andrew Hamnett (above), senior pro vice-chancellor at Newcastle University, has been appointed principal of Strathclyde University.
Professor Hamnett, an electrochemist, will succeed Sir John Arbuthnott, who retires at the end of this year. He was an external examiner in the department of pure and applied chemistry at Strathclyde in the early 1990s.
