Students at Salford University can now register and pay for short courses and modules online, in an attempt to meet the demands of lifelong learners.
Credit-card payments made on the internet will be monitored by a secure network maintained by Cable & Wireless. Online and distance-learning students will soon be able to access the system.
Salford's vice-chancellor, Michael Harloe, said that internet-based technology was shaping the future of higher education. "The entire process of selection and payment for a course will be able to be done from home, office or while travelling across the world," Professor Harloe said.
