Almost two-thirds of Scottish further education teaching staff have a teacher training qualification, while around 7 per cent are unqualified, according to Scottish Further Education Funding Council staffing statistics for 1998-99. Male lecturers outnumber females, but there are more women in the youngest age group, 29 and under.
