A European Court ruling on pension rights for part-time workers is expected to cost universities and colleges millions of pounds. Judges in Luxembourg this week backed a claim that part-timers who had previously been excluded from professional pension schemes should be able to backdate their membership to 1976 - overturning a two-year limit imposed in Britain.
