OED access

June 2, 2000

The Oxford English Dictionary Online is now available at a reduced cost to further and higher education institutions in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Students and staff will benefit from unlimited access to the service, after the negotiation of a three-year pricing arrangement by the Joint Information Systems Committee.

Funding from the further education funding bodies via JISC, means OED Online will cost colleges Pounds 85 in the first year of the three-year deal, compared with a standard list price of Pounds 600.

This is the first time that further education colleges have been able to take advantage of a JISC-negotiated deal.
