Almost 40 per cent of students taking higher education courses in Scottish further education colleges were studying business and management, according to the latest Scottish Office statistical bulletin for 1992/93.
The next biggest group, 18 per cent, was studying engineering. Vocational further education students were spread over a much larger number of subjects, with engineering, the single subject group studied by most students, accounting for only 12 per cent. The second most popular subject group was social studies, taken by 9 per cent.
