Of 259,749 graduates in 1999 whose destination was known, 66 per cent went straight into work, compared with 63 per cent in 1998, according to data released this week by the Higher Education Statistics Agency. United Kingdom-domiciled female first degree holders were the largest single group (52 per cent) who went on to further study or training, including PGCE courses.
