(Photograph) - The widow of Sir Gordon Beveridge (pictured), former vice-chancellor of Queen's University, Belfast, has won Pounds 295,000 damages following Sir Gordon's death from the incurable cancer mesothelioma. Sir Gordon had raised a Pounds 600,000 action against ICI in the Court of Session in Edinburgh, claiming his condition stemmed from exposure to asbestos during vacation jobs with the company when he was a chemical engineering undergraduate at Glasgow University. He had worked with asbestos lagging but had not been warned of the dangers.
