David Green, president of the Association of University Teachers, has died, aged 48, of cancer just 14 days into his presidency. Dr Green studied mathematics at Imperial College and completed his MSc and PhD at the University of Sheffield, joining the AUT in 1976, He served as secretary, vice-president and president of Bristol AUT, and was elected to the AUT executive in 1993. Born in Darlington in 1952, Dr Green grew up in North Tyneside and was a devoted Newcastle United supporter.
