Edinburgh University has won almost Pounds 250,000 from the Royal Bank of Scotland to help support entrants from state schools or colleges. The private-public partnership allows Edinburgh to offer 50 bursaries of Pounds 1,000 a year for the four years of a degree course. The university already offers 25 comparable bursaries to entrants from any background on the basis of academic merit.
