An 89-year-old industrialist has established the largest US award for medical research, rivalling the Nobel prize, with a $50 million endowment. From next year, the $500,000 Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research will be awarded annually for the next 100 years. The benefactor is Morris Silverman, founder of National Equipment Rental.
