The government is to expand the Mitchell scholarship programme in Northern Ireland, set up in honour of US senator George Mitchell who brokered the Good Friday Agreement.
The Northern Ireland department of further and higher education is to provide an annual £33,000 for two American students to study in Northern Ireland.
The Mitchell scholarship programme was established by the United States-Ireland Alliance. It provides scholarships for outstanding US students to study in Ireland - north and south.
