Universities Scotland is demanding that the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council disclose its calculations on the effect of its proposals on funding for teaching, amid fears that some institutions could lose up to 14 per cent of their teaching grant.
Glasgow Caledonian University petitioned enterprise and lifelong learning minister Wendy Alexander for support in "developing a fair system of teaching funding".
Kenny MacAskill, the Scottish National Party's spokesman on enterprise and lifelong learning, called on Ms Alexander to intervene, arguing that Shefc is accountable to the Scottish Executive.
