Medical schools branded exclusive
Ontario's medical schools have been labelled ghettos for the rich after a survey at the University of Western Ontario showed that the family incomes of students had risen from an average of C$80,000 (£35,400) to C$140,000. The cost of studying medicine in the province has almost tripled to C$14,000 a year since tuition-fee deregulation three years ago.
Italy reclassifies degrees
Italy’s government has ruled that under the new 3+2 degree system, three-year graduates will be known as “junior graduates”, while those who study a further two years will be “specialised graduates”. The decision follows objections by some professional organisations to regarding a three-year degree as a full degree.
