The Scottish Higher Education Funding Council's controversial funding reviews are to be investigated by the Scottish Parliament's enterprise and lifelong learning committee.
Shefc is looking at consultations on reforming teaching and research funding, many of which reject any change. Critics agree that change is necessary, but argue the proposals risk destabilising institutions and pre-empt a promised ministerial review.
The parliamentary committee is to investigate the basis of Shefc's reviews and is to make recommendations for Shefc's future funding of higher education. It has also agreed its remit for an inquiry into lifelong learning.
